Sometimes, I get fixated on specific foods. Earlier today, it was In-N-Out burger!
In-N-Out is now a household name for the best burger place in town in California, Nevada and Arizona. It was started by a husband-and-wife team, Harry and Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park, So. California, in 1948. They had a unique idea - a drive-thru hamburger stand where customers could order through a two-way speaker box. Their idea was welcomed and they thrived on serving their clients the "freshest, highest quality foods" that money could buy. Under the leadership of their son, Guy, they have since expanded and their logo is a familiar sight when cruising up and down the Freeways. They still serve their original menu of burgers, fries, and beverage, in the same manner, without the use of microwaves or freezers.
In the newer locations, interior sitting has been added.
In 1970, they began to serve their clients according to their preferences, thus the "protein-style burger" was born. Innovative and moving along with the times of cutting carbs from the diet, this "secret menu" became popular among their regular clientele and it attracted many new ones , as well, like me and other health buffs.
This is what I ordered: a double-double, protein-style burger, animal style - which is mustard-basted burger, wrapped in lettuce in place of a bun, and assembled with caramelized onions, pickles, fresh slices of tomatoes, and cheese slices .
There are other variations that you could order. Just let them know and they are quite accommodating.
I was so tempted to order their fries, animal style with caramelized onions and the house-thousand-island spread, but I didn't. Thanks to the family seated next to me, they allowed me to take a photo of one of their orders.
My burger order came out just the way I like it. The calorie total count was about 520. Pretty good. I enjoyed and savored every bite.
In New York, there is a burger place that seems to pattern their burgers after In-N-Out's. All I can say is there is nothing like the original In-N-Out burger or fries!
